JCCP Trustee Andrew Rankin is joined by Victor Ktorakis from Environmental Health to discuss how environmental health officers are increasingly applying their existing powers to respond to risks in the cosmetic sector. The conversation highlights how Environmental Health professionals, traditionally focused on areas like tattooing and massage, have adapted their approach to address emerging challenges in aesthetic practice, including unsafe procedures, unregulated premises, and the illegal supply of products. 

 

They explore how a growing understanding of the sector has led to more confident enforcement under current health and safety legislation, even in the absence of a national licensing scheme. The episode also addresses the importance of competence beyond CPD, the difficulty of regulating treatments delivered in residential or informal settings, and the ongoing concerns about medicines misuse and remote prescribing.
